Simone and Klaas are very experienced travellers. They like the daily adventures of backpacking, being in a different place every few days and always on the move. Sandaru Lanka was different – but still a journey, an experience and something new for body and soul every day. Simone describes what this really means in this guest article for our blog.
If Sandaru Lanka, then also a Panchakarmakur
I got to know Susanne during my studies at the Danube University Krems. My move into freelance copywriting a year ago and Sandaru Lanka led us to each other again. When I read Susanne’s first post about this special place on LinkedIn, I immediately knew that I wanted to go there.

As my husband and I have tried and experienced a lot on our backpacking trips over the years, the decision to spend two weeks with Panchakarma was quickly made.
First week lots of sleep, second week excursions
So we indulged in this surprisingly pleasant experience and recharged our batteries in peace and quiet.

But after a few days, despite daily massages and acupuncture, our thirst for adventure kicked in.

Organising our day trips around the treatment times, we went on a boat safari on the Madu River amidst water birds and mangroves, snorkelled with sea turtles, toured a temple barefoot, collected shells on a beach hike and went by tuk-tuk to the local village to shop for jewellery and spices.

People, animals, plants and sunset over the sea
We love discovering new things together. For example, the animals or unknown plants in a refugium and along the way, which we then identified to find out more about them.

For example, our favourite memories are of the fruit bats that looked for a place in the tree every evening, the yellow-headed oriole, the brown-headed whiskered bird or the two large pileated woodpeckers.

What also made the trip special for us were the romantic “together moments” such as the spectacular sunsets that we were able to watch every evening arm in arm on the roof terrace.

Or the marvellous Sandaru-Lanka dinners by flaming torchlight on the beach at the fishing rocks.

There were more than enough experiences like these that touched us personally. That’s why these two weeks have stayed with us for so long and which, six months later, I can now look back on with gratitude.

What made this holiday so different to other holidays was the people at Sandaru Lanka.
Each and every one of them made our stay more beautiful in their own personal way, made us feel welcome and cared for and enriched us. That may sound a bit cheesy for a blog, but that was exactly what both of us felt there. These encounters simply added to the treasure trove of experience for us as a couple.
We experienced Sandaru Lanka as a place with flair in beautiful natural surroundings
You have to experience it for yourself: the spirit that is inherent in Sandaru Lanka and that is transferred to everyone who, like us, comes there with an open heart and full of curiosity to experience this place.

A big thank you to you, dear Simone, for the wonderful insights into your very personal Sri Lanka experience as a couple. It was a pleasure to have you with us and to get to know the flora and fauna of Sandaru Lanka better thanks to you.
